Medical Laboratory Technician

Glacial Ridge Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Responsible for operation of the laboratory. Our laboratory services encompass the entire patient care continuum throughout the health system—from outpatient services to hospital, nursing home, and homecare visits. $2,000 sign-on bonus!

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Adhere to the lab’s quality control policies; document all quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance.
  • Follow the lab’s corrective action plan whenever test systems are not within established acceptable ranges.
  • Capable of identifying problems and troubleshoot, correct or notify supervisor.
  • Document all corrective action taken.
  • Capable of working as scheduled by the supervisor, including call duties, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Possess a current license issued by or approved by the State of Minnesota as required.
  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
    • Minimum Associate Degree in a laboratory science or associate degree in medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution; or have taken the federal HEW exam.
    • Have previously qualified or could have qualified as a technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433, March 14, 1990 register. (This register is a description of equivalency for a non-degreed medical technologist.)
    • Effective September 1, 1997, those without an associate of arts degree or equivalency, (non-degreed CLA or MLT), may work under the supervision of a general supervisor, as long as documented training and proficiency in all areas of the laboratory exist. Employee must demonstrate intent to comply with the testing personnel requirements which went into effect on September 1, 1997.
    • After September 1, 1997, personnel must meet A. or B. above unless approval of equivalency exists by the State of Minnesota or the governing HCFA inspector.
  • Must be certified by ASCP or an equivalent certification agency.

  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position.

Schedule

  • Full-Time
  • Rotating call/holidays/weekends
