EMS: Always Running Toward the Problem

EMS - Star of LifeSome people spend their whole life wondering, “Did I make a difference?” Some people don’t need to wonder. EMS week May 21-27 is a time to honor the dedication of those who provide day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine’s “front line.” These men and women are there anytime and anywhere.

Visit glacialridgeems.org to see the two pictures of our amazing ambulance crews. You may be surprised to see how many you recognize!

Glacial Ridge Ambulance provides pre-hospital care to all of Pope County and portions of Stevens, Douglas, and Stearns, 24/7/365. Glacial Ridge ambulances are stationed in Brooten, Glenwood, and Starbuck for quicker response times to those in need.

What does the “Star of Life” stand for?

You’ve seen the “Star of Life” symbol and know that it represents Emergency Medical Services (EMS), but did you know each bar represents one of 6 EMS functions?

  1. Detection
  2. Reporting
  3. Response
  4. On-Scene Care
  5. Care in Transit
  6. Transfer to Definitive Care

And, the serpent and staff in the symbol portray the staff of Asclepius, an ancient Greek physician deified as the god of medicine. Overall, the staff represents medicine and healing.

The “Star of Life” has become synonymous with emergency medical care around the globe.
