Peripheral Artery Disease Testing

March 14 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Are you at risk for peripheral artery disease?

  • Are you 65 years old or older?
  • Do you smoke?
  • Do you have diabetes?
  • Do you have high blood pressure?
  • Do you have high cholesterol?

Peripheral artery disease rehabIf you answered YES to any of these questions and you have leg pain when you walk that goes away within 10 minutes of rest, talk to your doctor. You may have Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD). The first step to diagnosing PAD involves an Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) test, and we’re offering this at no cost on Wednesday, March 14 from 1 – 4 pm at Glacial Ridge Hospital.

Call the outreach scheduling desk at 320.634.2018 to schedule your time.

During the ABI test, you will remove your shoes and socks and lie quietly on an examining table for approximately 10 minutes. The nurse will then take blood pressure measurements in both arms and legs using a small ultrasound device. A calculation, which is the Ankle Brachial Index, will be made determining the ratio between the ankle and arm pressure showing if there is evidence that PAD is present. Allow around 30 minutes for the test, and results will be given immediately following.
