Laboratory

Laboratory ServicesGlacial Ridge Health System maintains a state-of-the-art, full-service laboratory staffed by registered lab professionals who perform clinical analysis on blood and body fluids. These tests generate much of the clinical data used by physicians to make informed decisions when diagnosing and treating our patients. The lab is supervised by a Board Certified Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist. Our lab technologists and technicians are highly experienced and specially trained to work with patients of all ages.

The GRHS Laboratory is fully accredited with CLIA certification. We conduct a variety of analysis in urinalysis, bacteriology, transfusion services, hematology, chemistry, immunology, coagulation, toxicology and blood gases. Our lab technologists and technicians are committed to quality service that is convenient, efficient and cost-effective for our patients. We take pride in caring for our patients so that they feel comfortable and experience minimal discomfort during sample collection.

Our on-site laboratory offers both hospital inpatient and outpatient services and we accept orders from community and out-of-town providers. All test results are confidential and most testing is performed daily with results available to your doctor the same day.

Physician ordered laboratory tests are available 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. Specimen collection, drop off and testing is available through GRHS Outpatient Services from 8a – 4p Monday through Friday.

Each day our goal is to exceed your expectations and support clinical decision-making by providing health research-driven testing menu, expert interpretation and quick results reporting to support clinical decision – making for optimal treatment options. We are committed to the highest level of testing proficiency and standardization. But we never lose sight of the big picture that each specimen represents a unique patient and a unique situation and the results of each test may profoundly impact the nature of the entire course of therapy. We are dedicated to continuous quality improvement in our processes and services and committed to the highest level of testing proficiency and standardization. This results in continuity of care that encompasses the entire patient care continuum throughout the Glacial Ridge Health System, from outpatient services, to hospital, nursing home and home care visits.

Direct Lab Access (DLA)

Direct Laboratory Access is a consumer-directed laboratory testing facility and certain lab tests are available without a physician’s order. It is offered for those who desire to further monitor lab values between regular health care provider visits. It provides you with the opportunity to take a more active role in health care decisions by enabling individuals to select laboratory testing from a limited test menu.

DLA may be of particular interest to those patients whose health insurance plans do not cover certain wellness, screening, or health maintenance tests. If individuals have found that their insurance or Medicare coverage does NOT pay for a screening test or want testing for a personal condition, DLA may offer that option. DLA results are NOT sent to your healthcare provider and they do NOT become part of your medical record. You may wait for your results (please allow up to 2 hours), pick them up, or have them mailed to you. All DLA tests must be paid for at the time of service with cash, check or credit card. We do not file insurance claims or send bills for these services. All results are confidential.

It is important to note that this service is not a substitute for ongoing health care assessment with a health care provider. The Laboratory Manager at GRHS may be able to provide general information about these tests and your results; however, interpretation of these results is best performed by your physician. You are encouraged to share your results with your physician and it is your responsibility for contacting one if you have questions, receive abnormal results or feel unwell. Your current health and complete medical history must be considered when evaluating your health status.

A normal result does not guarantee that you do not need medical attention; likewise, an abnormal result does not always indicate disease. If any of your lab results fall into CRITICAL ranges, we will contact you immediately and recommend that you contact your doctor as soon as possible. If you do not have a physician, we can recommend one or send you to Glacial Ridge Hospital’s ER. Please note that anyone under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. In addition, please have a picture ID available at the time of service.
