DESCRIPTION:Navigating Change\nChange can bring joy and excitement—but for many older adults\, it can also be emotionally challenging. Changes in health\, mobility\, family routines\, grief\, loneliness\, and memory difficulties can make it feel overwhelming instead of something you’re looking forward to. \nWho’s Invited:\nThis free\, welcoming session is designed for older adults and their caregivers. \nCommon Challenges for Seniors\n\nLoneliness or social isolation – Less time with family or changes in relationships\nGrief and loss – Missing loved ones who have passed can intensify sadness during special dates\nHealth changes or mobility limitations – Activities\, travel\, and busy schedules may feel physically or emotionally taxing\nMemory or cognitive changes – Large gatherings\, noise\, or new environments may bring confusion or anxiety\nPressure to “feel joy” – Many older adults hide their sadness because they do not want to burden others\n\nJoin us for a conversation on:\n\nWays to support your emotional wellness during the hard days\nHow to honor memories and stay connected\nCreating calm\, predictable routines\nHow to process all of the feelings you may have\n\nWhere:\nThe session will be held in the meeting room at Ridgewood Villa\, just north of Glacial Ridge Health System. DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nTraining\n\n\n\nContact Us\n\n\n\n\n\nMake lasting memories with a fun run along Lake Minnewaska!\nThe GRHS 5K Scrub Run/Walk is a family event\, dogs and strollers are welcome! \nWhatever your health and fitness goals are\, with an attitude of “I can and I will\,” you can achieve them. Inspired by Dr. Mark Johnson\, everyone at Glacial Ridge Health System wishes you well and encourages you to get active and stay active. \nThe race is timed\, but not officially. Pre-registered participants choose from either a t-shirt or a ladies’ rocker-style tank top. \nSchedule of Events:\n\nAfter June 1\, t-shirts are not guaranteed and are first come\, first serve.\nOnline registration closes Thursday\, June 11.\nYou can register Friday night or Saturday morning at T-shirt pickup.\nSame-day registration: Saturday\, June 13 at City Park – 7:45-8:30 am. ($5 increase).\n\nT-shirt Pick-Up: Avoid the line before the race and get your shirt on Friday\, June 12 from 4-6 pm at Glenwood Lakes Area Chamber and Welcome Center in Glenwood.  (T-shirts are FCFS if registered after June 2.) \nRace: Saturday\, June 13 at the Lakeside Ballroom (City Park) Parking Lot – 9 am \nCourse: The 5K will start and end at the Lakeside Ballroom parking lot. The course follows North Lakeshore Drive and loops around the Captains Bar & Grill parking lot. A water station will be provided along the route.  \nAttire: Good running or walking shoes! Participants are encouraged to wear scrubs for the race or their new Scrub Run shirt. \nAfter the Race: Stretch and rejuvenate. Post-race refreshments will be provided at the finish line. \nAwards/Door Prizes: The awards ceremony begins at approximately 10:15 am\, with medals given to the First-Place male and female (youth and adult)\, plus door prize drawings (you must be present to win). \n \n\n\n\nPre-Registration:\n$30 for 16 and older\, and $25 for 15 and younger. Register before Monday\, June 1\, to be guaranteed a t-shirt or a women’s tank top (advanced registration only). Click Here! \n\n\n\n\nCheck out the various programs and calendars you can follow to help you train for a 5K. \n5K\, 10K\, Half Marathon Training Plan \nRunning for Beginners – Six-week Plan \nYour first steps include:\n\nOwn a very good pair of running shoes. Make sure they are appropriate for your feet and the way you run/walk.\nRemember\, shoes don’t last forever. Running shoes should be replaced every 300-500 miles.\nDon’t forget your core. It stabilizes every part of your body when you run and helps protect you from common injuries.\nStay hydrated. Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily\, or more if it’s hot outside or you’re exerting yourself.\n\nOther good ideas:\n\nRun or walk with a buddy\, even if you don’t have the same pace. You’ll keep each other accountable.\nWear clothes that make you feel good. Yes\, your workout clothes can help get your workout started\, and they can improve your performance.\nAdd some strength training to your routine. Don’t forget your core!\nDon’t forget to warm up before exercising with dynamic stretching to get your heart and muscles ready to go. Save the 30-second stretches for after your run/walk.
