As a family medicine provider, Dr. Scott Maanum enjoys encouraging patients to work toward better health. He provides complete care for patients of all ages—from babies to elders.
Dr. Maanum enjoys many aspects of family medicine, such as relationship building, continuity of care over a person’s lifespan, and the promotion of wellness and preventive care.
When he provides care for infants and children, he appreciates being able to monitor their growth and development throughout their childhood and then progressing with them through the unique needs of adolescence and adulthood.
Since Dr. Maanum began his medical training by focusing on a general surgery program, it provided him in-depth experience in digestive tract procedures—GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, and upper endoscopy.
His earlier surgical training also made him highly skilled in assisting patients who need care for skin issues or more-extensive dermatological treatment. From biopsies to cryosurgery, electro-surgery, and skin cancers, Dr. Maanum has treated many different types of skin conditions and diseases.
He also has a special interest in caring for those with pediatric and adult diabetes and has volunteered for several years as a physician at Iowa’s Camp for Kids with Diabetes.
Dr. Maanum earned his bachelor of arts degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, and his graduate degree as a Doctor of Medicine from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Grand Forks. He completed his internship at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in general surgery, followed by a residency in family medicine. Dr. Maanum worked as a family medicine physician in northern Minnesota for two years and in Iowa for six years prior to joining GRHS in October 2018.
Dr. Maanum is happy to be in Glenwood, closer to extended family. He especially enjoys spending time with his wife and children—fishing, bow-hunting, hiking, camping, biking, playing tennis, basketball, and playing music.
