Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – Lab and Clinic
Glacial Ridge Hospital is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to work in both the clinic and laboratory. The CMA will play a vital role in providing high-quality care by assisting healthcare providers in patient exams, administering treatments, and managing patient flow in the clinic. In addition, the CMA will perform a variety of laboratory tasks, including specimen collection, lab testing, and maintaining lab equipment. This position requires a versatile individual who is comfortable in both clinical and laboratory environments, ensuring a seamless experience for patients and supporting the efficient operation of both areas.
Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Duties:
- Prepare patients for examination by taking vitals, updating medical histories, and performing preliminary assessments.
- Assist healthcare providers during patient exams, procedures, and treatments.
- Administer medications as directed by the physician.
- Provide patient education on prescribed medications, treatments, and follow-up care.
- Document patient information accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Schedule and coordinate patient appointments and follow-up visits.
Laboratory Duties:
- Collect and process specimens, including blood, urine, and cultures, ensuring proper handling and storage.
- Perform laboratory tests, such as blood draws, urinalysis, and rapid tests, while adhering to safety and quality control standards.
- Prepare specimens for transport to external laboratories, as needed.
- Maintain laboratory inventory, ensure supplies are stocked, and properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials.
- Clean, calibrate, and maintain lab equipment to ensure proper functioning.
Qualifications
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required.
- Previous experience working in both clinical and laboratory settings is preferred.
- LXMO certification is preferred.
