Jessica van der Hagen, CNP, CNM

Professional headshot of a woman.Caring for people has always been an integral part of Jessie’s life. She worked as a certified nurse’s assistant throughout high school and college, then graduated with a degree in nursing from the College of St. Scholastica. After working as a registered nurse at a rural hospital, she returned to the College of St. Scholastica for her masters of arts in nursing and then joined Glacial Ridge Health System as a certified nurse practitioner (CNP) in 2006.

Jessie finds great joy in family medicine and caring for people in all generations. While she had provided prenatal and postnatal care for years, she wanted to be there for the best part – the baby’s birth. To expand her scope of practice to care for patients throughout their pregnancy, labor, and delivery, Jessie completed the additional education, training, and accreditation process required to become a certified nurse midwife (CNM). She attends hospital deliveries for women with low-risk pregnancies. A portion of her clinical training was at Region’s Hospital in St. Paul where she participated in many births. As a nurse midwife and nurse practitioner, Jessie focuses on providing primary health care for women from adolescence to beyond menopause.

Jessie is proud to be a part of a medical team that is willing to bring in specialists or refer patients to the best medical professionals. It is small-town care that can provide big-city benefits.

Growing up in Villard, she has known many of her patients for a number of years and is honored by their trust in her. She has always enjoyed the small-town, community atmosphere in this area and found it only natural to live and raise her family here. It could not be a better fit.

During her college years, Jessie fell in love with traveling the world. With only a backpack and a good pair of shoes, Jessie traveled both the U.S. countryside and abroad, spending time in Africa and all over Europe – Germany, Netherlands, and Great Britain, to name a few. Things have changed a bit since marriage and birth of her four children. She enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, racing, motorcycling, reading, and walking.
