With a beautiful morning by Lake Minnewaska and over 130 active men, women, and kids, the energy was high for the 9th Annual 5K Scrub Run on Saturday, June 10. It is always a success when someone accomplishes a goal. For some, the Scrub Run is a chance to train to better their running pace; for others, it’s an opportunity to walk their first 5K. “Dr. Mark Johnson would be proud to see so many people still showing up after all these years and making an effort to be active,” Jodi Armstrong, EMT, commented during her welcome speech to the group.
Taking home the first-place male and female medals, presented by Mary Johnson, were Zach Palmer with a time of 20 minutes 36 seconds and Aubrey Stark with 24 minutes 50 seconds. Participants were also in a drawing for door prizes donated by American Solutions for Business, Glacial Ridge Wellness Center, Glenwood State Bank, and Marthaler Chevrolet. Post-race refreshments were provided by EcoWater of Glenwood, Tom’s Market, Thrivent Financial, and Glacial Ridge Hospital.
“First Responders Have Our Backs” was designed for the back of the shirts this year, with the help of Pat Douvier at ScreenPrints Plus, as a reminder that help is never far away. The Scrub Run proceeds, still to be determined at the time of publication, will go to Funds For Heroes through the Fraternal Order of Police. This provides free mental health services for our Pope County law enforcement, firefighters, ambulance crews, and their families. Photos capturing some of the memories that were made during the Scrub Run can be found on Glacial Ridge Health System’s Facebook album.
