Professional headshot of a man.Glacial Ridge Health System welcomes Dr. David Polzin to the team of family medicine physicians. He is experienced in preventive health, disease management, colonoscopies, minor dermatology, joint injections, medical acupuncture, allergy care, and more.

Dr. Polzin enjoys all aspects of primary care—problem solving, relationship building, and complete healing. He knows people are different, bodies are complex, and there is not always a simple answer in one visit. Dr. Polzin focuses on getting to know his patients and their health history over time to bring to light what is really happening. He aims to make people well and keep them well.

“I enjoy providing comprehensive care to all ages of patients and to all members of a patient’s family,” said Dr. Polzin. “I place a large emphasis on prevention and try to act as a guide to my patients, to lead them to better health.”

As an active duty officer in the U.S. Air Force for just over a decade, Dr. Polzin practiced medicine around the world. Additional training to extend his skills includes specialized training in allergy care that allows him to provide testing, therapies, and treatments. Dr. Polzin is also trained in medical acupuncture, which is a treatment being embraced by the military to treat chronic pain.

Dr. Polzin was commissioned through Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) and earned his bachelor of science degree from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. He received his graduate degree as a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis and completed his residency at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in California. While he was active duty, Dr. Polzin completed a Faculty Development Fellowship through the University of North Carolina, Department of Family Medicine. It focused on fostering leadership, scholarship, and teaching in medicine.

Concluding active duty at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida and moving back to Minnesota is really about “coming home.” Dr. Polzin was raised in Duluth and his wife, Heidi (Schlueter), grew up in Glenwood. They look forward to having a permanent home for their children, close to family, and developing long-lasting relationships. He will continue serving his country as a member of the 133rd Air National Guard in Minneapolis-St. Paul. In his spare time, Dr. Polzin enjoys running and biking, and any activity that involves being on the lake, such as fishing, boating, and skiing.

He was attracted to the “Heartfelt Care” model at Glacial Ridge Health System, as he believes it is all about service to the patients and this allows him, as a doctor, to put the patient first. He joins the Glacial Ridge Health System medical team in July. Dr. Polzin looks forward to joining family members, Dr. Jeffrey Schlueter and Jenna Myrom, CNP, who also practice at Glacial Ridge.
