For three decades, riders and drivers have taken to Pope County roads for this event: supporting local hospice care. On Saturday, June 20, the 30th Annual Riding for a Cause Motorcycle Ride & Car Run marked that milestone with a strong turnout of motorcycles, classic cars, sports cars, volunteers, and community supporters.

“Reaching 30 years says everything about this community,” said Tina Blair, Glacial Ridge Hospice Manager. “Generations of riders, volunteers, and donors have kept this event going, and every one of them has made a difference for hospice patients and their families.”

Planned by the volunteer Hospice Ride Committee with support from Glacial Ridge Hospice staff, the day included commemorative t-shirts, hats, and other event merchandise, a picnic lunch in the park with free-will donations, raffle and door prize drawings, and a scenic afternoon route capped off by an evening ride around Lake Minnewaska. Every dollar raised stays local, funding compassionate end-of-life care through Glacial Ridge Hospice.

“The committee handles the planning, but it takes many hands to pull off a day like this,” Blair said. “We’re thankful for everyone who helps keep the event safe, welcoming, and fun year after year.” The committee extends special thanks to the Pope County Sheriff’s Office and Posse, Glenwood and Starbuck’s Police Department, and the Glenwood, Brooten, and Villard Fire Departments. These agencies provided traffic control along the entire route, keeping riders and drivers safe from start to finish. Thanks also go to Terrace Mill for hosting a welcome water and rest stop along the way. The committee offers heartfelt appreciation to Marthaler Chevrolet, the event’s longtime corporate sponsor, along with the many businesses, organizations, and individuals who donated funds to benefit local hospice care.

“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and 100% of the proceeds go directly to our hospice and palliative care patients,” Blair added. “The funds also help us provide grief and bereavement support for families.” As of today, the 30th annual event has raised more than $18,800. Donations are tax-deductible. The Hospice Ride Committee and Glacial Ridge Hospice staff thank every individual, business and organization whose donations, time and effort made this event a success.
