Glacial Ridge Health System’s Scrub Run is a 5K fun run/walk along Lake Minnewaska. The family-friendly event is taking place in person this year on Saturday, June 12 at City Park in Glenwood. As we kick off summer vacation, the Scrub Run theme of “I can and I will” marks the spirit behind the event. Whether you want to run fast, walk at a steady pace, push a stroller, or walk your dog, you can do it. It is about getting active and staying active: moving your body and gaining a healthier lifestyle. Scrubs are optional and encouraged.
The Scrub Run began seven years ago in memory of, and more appropriately, inspired by Dr. Mark Johnson. He was a beloved physician at GRHS for 25 years who lived a great and active life before losing his fight to pancreatic cancer in 2015. We often saw him walking with his and Mary’s dog Kobi. He enjoyed golf, hiking, and fitness classes at the Wellness Center. We like to think Dr. Johnson would be proud of the Scrub Run, as it brings people together in a dog-friendly and kid-friendly environment. Scrubs are optional, but make it more fun; there will be some available to borrow at t-shirt pick up or the day of the event.
You can register online or download a form and drop it off with a check at Glacial Ridge Hospital or Glacial Ridge Wellness Center. Please register by May 28 to be guaranteed a shirt! The registration fee is $20 for 13 and older and $15 for 12 and younger through Friday, June 11. Cost increases by $5 the morning of the race.
The shirts are awesome and won’t be among other race shirts to sit in the drawer; plus, you get to choose between a t-shirt or rocker-style tank top! Pat Douvier with Screen Prints Plus is a strong supporter of our community. She collaborated with GRHS again this year to provide two shirt options at the same registration fee. Extra shirts can be ordered for just $12 each.
Shirt pick-up and additional registrations will take place at the Glenwood Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce/Welcome Center on Friday night, June 11th, from 4:30-6:30 pm.
At the Johnson family’s request, proceeds from the Scrub Run benefit Glacial Ridge Hospice. Donations help provide additional services for hospice patients and their families. “We will forever appreciate the care the Hospice team provided for Mark in his final days so he could die at home rather than in the hospital,” shared Mary Johnson.
