Short-term rehabilitation at Glacial Ridge Health System supports patients recovering from a hospitalization. Care is led by skilled nursing, therapy services, and providers working together with one goal—help patients safely regain strength, independence, and confidence to return home.
What that looks like in real life is best told by the people who’ve been through it.
Dawn’s Journey Toward Healing
In July 2024, a camping trip near Rochester, MN, took an unexpected turn when I fell and broke myfemur. The experience was terrifying, and the pain was unimaginable. After surgery and a four-day hospital stay in Rochester, I was asked where I wanted to go for short-term rehab. Glacial Ridge Health System was at the top of my list. Even the transport driver noticed the difference, remarking upon arrival, “Wow, what a facility – looks like you made a good choice.”
From the moment I arrived until the day I was discharged, I felt that my recovery was the team’s top priority. The nursing staff was exceptional; they didn’t just provide care, they listened to my concerns, explained every detail, and took the time to simply talk with me.
My physical and occupational therapy team was truly unbelievable. Their patience and compassion were matched by a gentle, smiling “push” that gave me the confidence to succeed. This excellence extended to every corner of ht efamility, from the exceptional doctors and delightful volunteers to the cleaning staff who were always discreet and kind. And I must mention the food, it was fantastic!
Following my stay in short-term rehab, I was referred to Dr. Josh Thomas at Glenwood Medical Center. I truly felt like I hit the jackpot. Dr. Thomas and his nurse were absolute treasures – kind, compassionate, and expert in directing my post-op care.
People often ask why I chose Glacial Ridge. It’s because of the people. This health system is a “hidden gem.” Thanks to this incredible team, I have made a full recovery. I am back to camping, walking, and traveling with my family. I am profoundly grateful to everyone at Glacial Ridge for helping me get my life back.
Care That Continues After Rehab
Short-term rehab (also called Swing Bed) doesn’t end at discharge. When patients are ready to transition, care continues through follow-up appointments, outpatient therapy, and coordination with primary or specialty providers—such as Dr. Thomas at Glenwood Medical Center. That continuity helps patients stay on track and avoid setbacks.
Recovery is hard work. The right team makes it doable—and sometimes even hopeful.
If you or a loved one needs a Short-Term Rehabilitation program after surgery, injury, or hospitalization, knowing what to expect can make all the difference.
